The Real Meaning of Diets

Diets. . .

. . . teach us that we’re wrong.

. . . make us unworthy of eating food that we enjoy.

. . . encourage us not trust ourselves.

. . . deprive us of what we want.

. . . make us feel stupid--like we can’t choose for ourselves.

. . . bring on binges.

. . . bring on feelings of failure.

. . . help us gain weight.

Pleasure. . .

. . .teaches us that we can eat what we want when we want it--because we’re paying attention to what our bodies are truly hungry for.

. . . teaches us that we are worthy of eating foods that we enjoy.

. . . encourages us to trust our desires and encourages us to pay attention to our physical bodies.

. . . allows us to eat what we want.

. . . brings on feelings of satisfaction.

. . . brings on feelings of success and accomplishment and joy.

. . . helps us release weight because we trust what our bodies are telling us.

Kristin Heslop, DMA, has gained and lost over a thousand pounds throughout her life. A musician by trade and training, Dr. Heslop attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. She holds a Master of Music degree from Wichita State University, and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Heslop has taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Concordia University, Union College, Wichita State University, and Enterprise Academy. She has performed on the flute, piano, harpsichord, and organ throughout the Midwest.
